Judgment Is the Value + Two More Forum Day 1 Takeaways

Hi!

That's a wrap on Day 1 of our Virtual Biopharma Comms Forum, and now looking forward to Day 2 tomorrow!

We covered a lot of ground today focused on the theme Owning the Outcome, but across three very different conversations, we looked for the common threads:

>> Start with the outcome before choosing the activity. We kept hearing versions of the same question: What are we actually trying to change? That could mean the business problem a comms strategy needs to help solve, the stakeholder response a CEO needs to anticipate, or the value an AI workflow needs to create before we decide how sophisticated it should be. Owning the outcome starts further upstream than the communications deliverable.

>> Make judgment the value you bring. We talked about the value communications partners can bring as strong “people readers” and willing sparring partners, seeing how a decision may land with patients, employees, investors, the board, and other stakeholders. Trusted communicators help leaders understand both what the C-suite wants to hear and what they need to hear. And as AI takes on more research, synthesis, and execution, that judgment becomes even more important (echoing what we heard at our Boston forum back in June).

>> Get more selective, not simply more sophisticated. More data, more access, more coverage, and more AI capability can all sound like progress. But knowing which metrics leadership can apply in real life, which stakeholders matter most to the decision, when communications truly needs to be in the room, and where AI should -- or shouldn’t -- have latitude is where we can uniquely contribute. Sometimes owning the outcome means doing less, more deliberately.

Agentic workflow slides now available

Skye King packed a lot into her Day 1 workshop, so we’ve posted both her slides and the full replay. Her framework for scoping an agentic AI workflow starts well before choosing a tool: identify the outcome worth improving, map how the work happens today, decide what AI should (and shouldn't!) do, pressure-test readiness and value, and then determine the right next step.

I’d recommend starting with the slides. They’re designed almost like a workbook and are probably the easiest way to revisit the framework at your own pace. The replay is available if you want the additional context behind each step.

Hi! A quick reminder that our 2nd Annual Virtual Biopharma Comms Forum starts tomorrow, October 6th. Over the next two half-days, we’ll gather virtually to explore what the expansion of the comms remit means for the profession, and how we as communicators can Own the Outcome (this year's forum theme). Our agenda approaches this from multiple angles: From how the C-suite experiences comms counsel, to the changing boundaries of corporate affairs and measuring what matters to the business. Sign...

Hi! We spend a lot of time in comms planning for what we think is going to happen: building strategies, preparing for milestones, pressure-testing scenarios, and trying to anticipate what could change along the way. And then the plan changes. Or a scenario we didn't anticipate pops up. Sometimes it’s a small adjustment. Other times, a new development changes the people involved, the priorities, the timing, or the decision itself. The job becomes figuring out what still holds, what needs to...

T2B Monthly | September 2026 Hi! So appropriate that I'm finishing up this month's newsletter while I'm on a plane to San Diego, hosting our final mixer of Q3 tonight. We celebrate this community's third(!!) anniversary in October, and it feels fitting that we're kicking off the month with our 2nd Annual Virtual Biopharma Comms Forum. This year's theme, Owning the Outcome, reflects so much of what we've been...
