Hi, and Happy Friday! At our Q2 masterclass, Thriving Beyond Limits: Fear Less and Flow More, leadership coach Ashley Paré challenged us to rethink assumptions that shape how we show up at work, navigate change, and advocate for ourselves. The session explored everything from confidence and self-worth to managing difficult conversations and communicating value inside organizations. If you weren't able to join us live, T2B Pro and Student members can watch the replay and flip through her presentation slides here. Here are our top 10 takeaways from the conversation:1. Start from inherent worthiness. A system built to keep people proving themselves for the next title can bury the fact that the experience already behind you holds real value on its own. 2. Name the trap you default to. Most of us slide into one of five patterns under pressure: overwork, authority, likability, rejection, or going it alone, and spotting yours is where change starts. 3. Run fear through Own Your Worth's® FEARLESS framework. Feel it in the body, evaluate the real evidence, accept and assess your options, then respond by choice, since the skipped middle is what turns pressure into burnout. 4. Revisit a yes when it stops serving you. The pull to white-knuckle through a yes you already gave is often fear talking, and renegotiating the date or scope rarely costs the relationship. 5. Claim your own change journey. Communicators get cast as the steady, unaffected ones who absorb everyone else's transition, often without being asked what they see or what they themselves need. 6. Map who needs to see your impact. Quiet, steady helpfulness rarely converts on its own into the quantifiable story specific stakeholders need to make your case for you when it counts. 7. Surface where leadership's expectations outrun reality. When executives carry high hopes for AI, explaining the reasons behind what the function can -- and should -- deliver today is squarely senior work. (Hot tip: Be sure to check out T2B's inaugural AI in Biopharma Comms Survey results for more background!) 8. Lean into the hard conversation. Sitting with the discomfort of conflict is what lets a communicator stay both respected and liked while still trusting their own read on a call. 9. Meet defensiveness with curiosity. A guarded reaction is information, so reflecting back what you heard, or asking when a budget or decision might open, tends to ease the room. 10. Resist the lone-wolf pull. Handling everything solo isolates you, and "the lone wolf costs you more than it gives you," so reaching for support, whether mentors, sponsors, and/or peers, is how senior careers keep moving. Thank you again to Ashley for leading this thought-provoking discussion. I think we are all able to recognize pieces of ourselves in some of these takeaways. More info soon on our Q3 masterclass, coming up in August. In the meantime, have a wonderful weekend! Lynnea |
Hi! Ever since I can remember, the de facto comms announcement strategy has centered on company statements, press releases, media outreach, executive quotes, and corporate social channels. Those still matter. But increasingly, credibility also depends on who is speaking, where they are speaking, and whether the message feels like it is coming from a real person with expertise, judgment, and something meaningful to say. That could mean a CEO on LinkedIn, a scientist explaining the work in...
Hi! Communicators often joke that we're unpaid therapists. Why? Because much of our work involves helping people navigate competing priorities, resistance to change, unclear objectives, and difficult conversations. Our job goes way, way beyond helping people communicate; we help people think through -- often serving as a guide through -- complex situations. Bringing that coaching mindset into our everyday communications work is the topic of our Q3 masterclass. The Coaching Mindset for...
